The Carpenter Bee
Carpenter bees are very common in North Carolina. They are known from the holes they bore into wood. These holes are almost perfectly round. The best way to prevent Carpenter Bees is to be sure not to have any bare wood on or around your home, especially decks. You can either paint all wood surfaces or apply a couple layers of stain and a couple layers of sealant. The paint will do a better job to prevent however some prefer to use stain over paints. Another important part of prevention is to seal any cracks, crevices, or holes on the home that lead to bare wood. This is expecially important around eaves of homes. Using a wood putty or something similar to seal these openings will prevent the Carpenter Bees from finding exposed wood inside the structure.
